How to lucid dream: tips and resources

What is lucid dreaming?

According to Wikipedia: A lucid dream is a dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming. In a lucid dream, the dreamer can actively participate in and manipulate imaginary experiences in the dream environment. Lucid dreams can seem real and vivid.
Sounds pretty cool, doesn’t it?

General Tips

1. Keep a dream journal. This will allow to track trends in your dreams, making them more identifiable.

2. Drink a lot of water. The more water you drink before bed, the more vivid your dreams.

3. Ask yourself during the day, “Am I dreaming?” Make it habit. It will help you recognize reality from dreams.

6 Steps for Lucid Dreaming

1. Make sure everything is quiet around you. Turn off all electronics, and make sure your door is shut so no one disturbs you.

2. Go to sleep in a comfortable position. You need to be relaxed.

3. Breathe in a calm manner. Try to imagine your body becoming heavier and heavier, like you see on television when someone is getting hypnotized.

4. Repeat step 3 until you get a “signal.” The signal should feel like a floating sensation.

5. Focus on getting your mind to leave your body. Imagine yourself physically leaving your body. You should be able to get up and out of bed with your body still there.

6. You should then be able to lucid dream now. Go try to find your body.

Another Technique (“Wake Back to Bed” Technique)

1. Set your alarm to go off in 4 1/2 hours. Fall asleep quickly.

2. When the alarm goes off, get up for about 15-20 minutes. Eat something healthy and drink some water.

3. While awake, obsess over lucid dreaming. Imagine the act of lucid dreaming. Play it all out in your head.

4. Go back to sleep. Focus on lucid dreaming, and it should happen.
