Why Do People Care About Their Appearance?

Monday 26 May 2014 0 comments

Appearance is the bane of our existence. Sometimes I just wish we didn't have to worry about how we look. But the case remains that it does matter most of the time what our hair looks like, what we wearing, what we smell like, etc.

Who cares about Appearance.

Some researchers say that people fall in love with those who are as attractive as them while in fact that's only partially true. Only when you define the word attractive you will be able to understand this statement well.

For a certain person attractiveness might be financial success, for another person attractiveness might be kindness while for a third person attractiveness might be a hot looking blond.

People are not the same and in fact most attractive people won't be attracted to looks as much as they are attracted to other things because a part of human nature is compensating for what they lack.

What do to when dealing with people who care about Appearance.

There are many things you can do to appeal to a person who has a visual representation system. First of all you must choose clothes that make you look good and You must care about your appearance all the time else you will turn that person off.

If one day you had to wear untidy clothes or you didn't manage to look good then you'd better avoid him.

I know this sounds superficial but when you think about it from a psychological point of view it makes a lot of sense. That person can change his mind about something if it doesn't look good and so it makes a lot of sense to be in your best form when meeting him.

Psychology of people who care about Appearance.

People who have self image problems might care about looks more than other people. Attention seekers will also give looks a higher priority when attempting to search for a relationship partner (of course there can be exceptions)

People who have inflated egos might also care much about looks because of thinking that they deserve the best.

But we're also split up into groups depending on how much we care, and why. I care about how I look, because I am always aware of how people look; I don't judge them harshly on it (as long as they don't dress too repulsively) and I don't think of them differently as a person. But if it's a guy, I tend to notice how attractive they are and what they're wearing, etc.

If it's a girl, I'm aware of how attractive they are; I'm just not attracted to them. I know appearance doesn't have any relation to what someone's like inside. But it gives you clues, looks say something about you.

So naturally, I worry about what people are thinking about me when they look at me; from friends to complete strangers.

Other people care about their appearance for personal betterment; they want to become a better person, (be it because of basing themselves on other people, or just wanting to improve self-esteem), and so they make an effort to look better.

I'd rather be one of these people, but it's just part of who I am that means that I worry about what people think of me. I don't base my appearance on other people, I try to look like how I want to look, thereby making myself feel better about myself....but also it makes me feel better when people look at me.
