Tips on Overcoming Various Types of Discouragements

First, find out what is making you feel discouraged. Depending on the type of problem, you then work out solutions for each type.

1A. For discouragements involving not being able to obtain your goals because you feel that they are not realistic, you can try evaluating your goals. Do you really think that your goals are unobtainable? With your current abilities, could you reach your goals? If not, how much harder do you need to work? If you find out that your goals may just be too far, you may want to develop a mindset where you are going to give it your all and see how far you can go.

2A. For discouragements involving parents or lack of people supporting you, you can try being your own support or you can find people who support you. If you try hard enough to chase your goals, people will come to admire you for that. Furthermore, you can also try sharing your goals or dreams with others and see if they support you.

3A. For discouragements involving losing to competitions or comparing yourself to others, you can try learning from your competitions. If you feel that your competition is too far out of your league, you can try thinking about strong points that you have that they don’t. You can also admit that they are better than you because they’ve either worked harder to obtain their current status and begin to try as hard. You can also find comfort in that each person is walking their own individual journey and that you have your own pace.

4A. For discouragements involving haters, you can try to ignore it or learn from their criticisms. People who hate on others who pursue their own dreams or goals have nothing better to do than to criticize others because they simply want to feel significant. They are either also jealous.

5A. For discouragements involving lack of resources to help you reach your goals, you can overcome it by looking for what ever opportunities available. For example, if you are discouraged because you can not get the tutors you need to improve your exam performance, you can try getting a friend to tutor you or looking for free resources on campus.

6A. For discouragements involving emotional setbacks such as loss of a love one or heartbreak, you can overcome that by using the emotions to fuel your work.
