More in a Relationship than Romance

There’s More To A Relationship Than Romance

There’s no doubt that one of the greatest things about being in a relationship is the romantic connection and the chemistry that you share. But there’s more to a solid relationship than just romance and physical attraction. When you take the time to build a strong relationship with someone you can enjoy these added benefits that often outlast any lust or chemistry:

1. Friendship. Many romantic relationships turn into close friendships and this is one of the greatest rewards of being in a relationship. Not only do you have someone to go on dates with, but you often find your best friend and gain a wonderful friendship. When you spend lots of time with someone and open yourself up to them, it’s only natural that you become friends. As your relationship grows, so will your friendship.

2. Support. Being in a relationship means that there’s always someone there who has your back. When times are tough, when everyone else turns against you, and when you need a shoulder to cry on, your partner should be there to support you and give you what you need. It’s not always glamorous, but having someone who will support you through thick and thin is one of the greatest rewards of a relationship.

3. A sounding board. Your partner should be one of your closest confidants, someone who you can talk to about just about anything. They are someone you can vent to, bounce ideas off of, talk to when you’re excited about something, or even just someone to chat to when you’re bored. You don’t have to keep things bottled up inside when you’re in a relationship and have someone that you can talk to instead.

4. A cheerleader. We don’t always feel confident in ourselves and our partners can be great cheerleaders when we need a boost. A good partner will know, without having to be asked, that you need a bit of a pep talk or a confidence boost. They are there to cheer you on when you accomplish something and they can give you the pat on the back that you deserve, and they’re also there when you’re down and out and need encouragement.

5. Comfort. After the romance and fireworks of a new relationship fade away, your partner is someone who you can just be comfortable with. This isn’t to say that you should totally let yourself go, but rather that you can relax together and let go of trying to impress others or put on an act. Your partner loves you for who you truly are, so they are someone you can be comfortable with and just be yourself around.
