How can bravery be measured? Why
do you hesitate
to take forward
step sometimes and
sometimes, go arrogantly without
thinking the results?
Okay. Here are the answers. First, you have to define what actually braveness
is. Braveness is our mental strength to do
a task.
The nature of
this emotion is it comes
in different degrees
in different contexts
likewise, let’s say, Fear.
An youngster who
participates in street fights
with ease; might have gone timid in
front of his
Mom. A leader
who can confidently
speak in front of hundreds
of people, might
be very quite
when he is
with his wife.
One who wins
in a dangerous
motor bike race won’t
dare to even
enter into the
college class room.
What makes them
feel the difference
in different situations?
Okay. Now, you
have to learn
another important nature
of this emotion.
Most of the times, it obeys the logic.
Before committing to a
task, It checks
the ratio of
our loss and
gain, in the
sub-conscious range. Let’s
say in the
above mentioned, last instance ,
he participated in the race
because his sub-conscious
mind is convinced
with the logic
that he can
get more than
loss more, if
he participates in
the race because
of these following
reasons:
1. Because
he is good
enough in bike
races, there is
nothing to loss. So,
the left side
number of the
ratio i.e., loss
quotient = 0 ( nothing. ). OR if he has
to pay some
money for the
participation, his sub -
conscious will consider
it too. Then
the quotient of
loss will have
a positive numeric
value, let’s say
a +0.3. depends
up on how much
he is going
to pay, and he
much value he
gives for that.
2. Now, it considers the Hope of winning it. Hope
can be defined
as the positive
prediction of our
sub – conscious. Considering the
factors, that makes
him win like how
much distance is
the race, the
obstacles etc., it will be
convinced that he has more
chances to win.
So, it gives
a more value
for the right
side of the
ratio i.e., gain
quotient. Let’s say, +0.9.
3. Now the ratio has become 1:3. Here, the gain quotient is bigger than the loss
quotient. So, that
means he is
‘’brave enough’’ to
do the race
confidently.
Now, lets consider the ratio while he is going
into the classroom.
1. He
is bad in
studies, he can’t understand
what the hell
is the lecturer
speaking about. But, he ought
to sit in
there, patiently without any
exception. He has
to answer the
questions being asked
which he doesn’t
know. He has to
sustain whatever the
lecturer scolds him and whatever
his mates whispers
about him. Considering
all these factors,
let’s say the
sub – conscious fixed the
loss quotient as
+0.9 here.
2. How
can we speak about the hope here? He
has nothing to
gain here except
a little enjoyment
with his friends,
the attendance, and
some amount of
lust while watching
the girls. Now, the gain quotient is let’s say +0.3.
3. Now,
the ratio has become 3:1. Because he
has to loss
more than gaining
more, he won’t dare
to enter the class
room.
The same analysis
applies for all
the above mentioned
examples. Remember, like
any other emotion,
braveness is also
a message of
our sub – conscious. For,
instance in the
first case its
message is : ‘’ do
it. You can win. ‘’ whereas in
the second case
its message is :
‘’ don’t go Mr.
innocent!! You will be crushed like a sugar
cane. ‘’ And you
can’t understand all
this analysis in
your own mind.
Because all this
is going on
in your sub – conscious level.
And the time
period it takes
for the analysis
ranges from Micro seconds
to may be
years depends up
on various other
factors like urgency.
Now, there is another side to this emotion like the others. That is when it doesn't really obey the logic. There is a fundamental formula of our mind….. LOGIC IS INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL TO THE EMOTION. When the emotion is taking the upper hand, the logic will die. Thereby, you will loss your control and do the things arrogantly without taking an analysis. Lastly, you will feel sad for what you lost. So, all I can advise you is to control your emotions for the sake of your welfare.
